A great majority of the narrative in the â€Å"The Storm† implies that testing ones boundaries in human sexuality is one of the more passionate forms of asserting one’s own independence. Alcee may not have been aware at first, but as he helped her thrust the bagging under the door to keep out the storm brewing outside, he was also aiding in keeping in the other obvious storm about to erupt inside. Alcee started feeling the tension soon enough though and he began noticing every beautiful physical aspect of Calixta possible. It may not have been intentional, but Alcee himself did not have the power inside of him to stop it, nor did he even want to stop it.
